Where Was The Coonskin Cap?

The Return of Daniel Boone

1941

Every now and then there comes along a movie with a title that makes NO sense whatsoever. This is one of those movies.

In this B-western from Columbia Pictures, Bill Elliott plays Bill Boone, the grandson of the legendary Daniel Boone. Bill catches wind of a plot to essentially steal ranchers' land when they can't pay their overly-inflated taxes. He and his sidekick, Cannonball, become part of the bad guy's team, undercover. Everything plays out in fine and dandy fashion just like in practically every single B-western ever made. So the question is -- was it entertaining enough and not ludicrously played out by actors who did or didn't have talent to be in front of the camera? The answer to that is -- yeah, sure, it wasn't bad... wasn't great by any means but as usual this was a decent hour long excuse to have popcorn and watch a movie.

Still another question remains, though. What's with the title?! Daniel Boone was not in this picture. The main character is supposed to be his grandson. Okay, fine... but how can one say Daniel Boone is back? They can't. Just plain stoopid and wrong; innocent but still idiotic.
