Mutterings of the Cold, Snowy, and Tired variety
I'm almost not sure which end is up right now.
Yesterday I was going to go dogsledding. A friend from work has a brother who raises [sled] dogs, she was gonna be at his place all day, told me to stop on by and she'd take me out for a spin.
As it started getting dark it started to snow once again and the temperature started to rise a few degrees due to the most overcast sky. Prior to that, while the sun was shining, my backyard thermometer gave me readings hovering between about -33 and -25 or so (-36 and -32 Celsius.)
My plan for the day -- ain't no goin' outside! Wood was stacked ready to put into the stove, football was on, coffee was made, I completely decided to not run on Saturday; I wasn't goin' anywhere! Even my dog with Siberian ancestry was stayin' inside.
Great(!) game in Green Bay on snow-covered Lambeau Field and then the phone call comes: "Can you work the overnight tonight?"
Oi.
Since I had absolutely nothing planned for Saturday night I wasn't gonna lie... so after the Jags-Pats game and some napping, I went in at 9 p.m. to work the overnight shift.
Back in the warmth of and comfort of my house I have been for a few hours now... but I'm kind of lost. Do I go to sleep? There's football on. Do I run today? I oughta. Light snow has been falling (constantly, for the most part) since yesterday evening, temperature's not as bad -- about 18 below (-28 Celsius) -- but do I really wanna go back outside to drive to the gym and back for only a 16 minute run? Oi again because yeah, that would be worth it... but I need sleep! I guess we'll see what happens.
For now, how about...Unconscious Mutterings
a free association game -- I say ... and you think ... ?
1. Dream big :: Ferrari ... I used to dream of owning a Ferrari but what a waste of money. Even to buy a used one for as little as $40,000, who benefits other than myself? Couldn't $40,000 be better used? Could probably even save lives with that money. Could give people clean water and healthy food to eat. Yeah, so spending money on a car you don't need, definitely a waste of money.
2. Competition :: Olympics ... Years ago I actually used to dream big of having Olympic gold in moguls (skiing.) When I lived in Salt Lake City, Utah, I trained by butt off up at Park City, drove all around the western U.S. to ski in competitions ... but my love for skiing the steep stuff took over and my discipline to train slacked way off. Oh well.
3. Torn :: between skiing moguls and the more exciting and dangerous parts of the mountain.
4. Modeling :: Girls ... or more appropriately: women! But I guess most women get into modeling when they're girls but the modeling industry sure gives me lots of incredible beauty to look at. Whoa, then again, some would complain it's the modeling industry that sets the standard for beauty but in reality, there's no way to prove that. Take a kid from a tiny remote village, a kid who's never seen a car in person or on TV or on the internet or in books, and ask him which is nicer, a grey mini-van or a red Ferrari. I bet 9 times outta 10 the Ferrari would be chosen. I bet it's the same with choosing beauty in people. There is no standard except that which is in our DNA. Just a theory.
5. Coaster :: a CDR which doesn't burn properly or becomes scratched and ruined.
6. Slut :: Britney Spears ... she first came to mind but that's not right since I have no proof she is a slut... then again, what exactly a slut is is all a matter of opinion. If a girl sleeps with 40 men in a year, she might not mind that at all while society might call her a slut. Who's right? (I'm not condoning sleeping with 40 people in a year, just making a point.)
7. Spread :: Legs ... ha ha, the previous word brought me there.
8. Amanda :: a girlfriend I had ... back in Missoula, Montana. Kinda messed up girl, unfortunately. Interestingly, even though I met her in western Montana, she grew up just one town over, a few miles from where I grew up back in northern New Jersey.
9. Romance :: dinner for two ... which isn't necessarily special on the face of it but when you pick a nice place, make reservations, get a little dressed up, maybe order some nice wine, enjoy being together by candlelight... or even do all that at home, that can be romantic. Somehow I don't think Applebee's or Olive Garden would cut it, or at least not for me!
10. Paradise :: Mountains ... I bet a lot of people thought tropical. Not me!
