Repulsive

This almost makes me embarrassed to be from New Jersey. Thankfully I'm from north Jersey where most people have class. This woman is from central Jersey where you're really getting into hickville.

I'm conflicted about this "person." I absolutely support her freedom to do this . . . but she has children. NJ Department of Children and Families should take her kids away because she cannot be the mother she potentially could be if she had any sense. She clearly doesn't.

While I support her freedom to be a whale, it almost makes me wish President Obama would make this illegal. Knock down a few walls to make a cell that will fit her and throw her blubber in jail, force her to get her weight down to something nearing respectable. If we're going to be a nation of obscenely big and wasteful government, why not make people get a license to be a parent? You need a license to cut hair . . . but what this woman is doing is okay?

NJ woman attempting to become world's fattest lady

Supersize me, please.

A New Jersey woman who already weighs a whopping 600 pounds is on a mission to double her girth in a bid to become the world's fattest woman.

Donna Simpson, 42, said she has her sights on reaching the 1,000-pound mark over the next two years.

"My favorite food is sushi, but unlike others I can sit and eat 70 big pieces of sushi in one go," she told London's Daily Mail in an interview published today. "I do love cakes and sweet things, doughnuts are my favorite."

Simpson insists she is healthy, even though she can't walk and has to move around with the help of a motorized scooter.

Simpson, who wears XXXXXXXL dresses, said she gobbles up lots of fast food like hamburgers and french fries. She also said she moves as little as possible each day in order to keep on the pounds.

To reach her goal, Simpson said she's been eating up to 12,000 calories a day -- although the average woman should only consume about 2,000.

To pay for her gigantic $750-a-week food bill, Simpson runs a Web site where men pay her to watch her eat.

"I love eating and people love watching me eat,' she told the British newspaper. "It makes people happy, and I'm not harming anyone."

Simpson already holds the Guinness World Record as the world's fattest mother, when she gave birth in 2007 to her daughter Jacqueline.

"I'd love to be 1,000 pounds," said Simpson. "It might be hard though. Running after my daughter keeps my weight down."

Simpson said her boyfriend Philippe, 49, has encouraged her to eat more -- even though he only weighs 150 pounds.

"I think he'd like it if I was bigger," she added. "He's a real belly man, and completely supports me."

Meanwhile...

• 1.02 billion people across the world are hungry

• Every day, almost 16,000 children die from hunger-related causes--one child every five seconds

• In essence, hunger is the most extreme form of poverty, where individuals or families cannot afford to meet their most basic need for food.

Please don't rely on governments to make everything better. As we know in the United States, they usually just make things worse... just as the current White House and Congress are doing right now with almost everything they touch.

Charitable donations are best spent by private non-profits, not by the government handing out checks courtesy of the American taxpayer.

The Flamingo Kid has me perplexed

I'm confused.

Some people will want to propagate the idea that Fox News is BAD!!! That channel is Republican propaganda, everything they say is dangerous and completely one-sided, and it's just plain wrong for Americans to watch the "faux" news they put forth to the public.

(That's true, right?)

It's my understanding, according to some, that Sean Hannity represents all things Republican and what does that mean? That means he only cares about himself. The plight of the suffering means NOTHING to Sean Hannity and Fox News.

(Also true, right?)

Then what the hell is Matt Dillon doing on Hannity discussing the plight of the suffering in Sudan? Wouldn't this just be a waste of time to Hannity? Liberals, I ask you -- doesn't this go against everything Fox News stands for . . . in your opinion?? Or is it, perhaps, you're wrong in your assessment of that news channel?

Actually, far more important than slandering/spreading lies about Fox News is what Dallas Winston is saying here. Pay attention to that, won't you? (I hope because it's on Fox News, the importance of the cause isn't lessened. Is it?)

and consider helping out with a few bucks if it's in your heart to

because God knows the government giving tax-payer dollars
surely won't get the job done.

Sound quality kinda sucks -- definitely below average, unfortunately. Vocals are often lost in the mix but it's still listenable. My highlight, besides hearing songs from way back in the earliest days of the Midnight Oil (there's like nothing between 80 and 93!), is the UBER-rare performance of Wharf Rat. The Oils recorded this for inclusion on the 1991 Grateful Dead tribute album: Deadicated. Even though they made that recording, the tune has been incredibly absent from their lives shows I guess here in San Francisco, home of the Good Ol' Grateful Dead, Peter Garrett wanted to pay tribute to the city's most famous band and they break it out for the fans. Of course I have no idea how many in attendance may have been a Deadhead and gave a crap about Wharf Rat, but this Deadhead typing this loves that it was played. I wonder if Garrett even listens to the GD but even if not I'm sure he appreciated what they've done as a band in their career. He makes a half-joke about the Grateful Dead saying, "They're all kind of overweight now but they're still very decent people," and goes on to say about the Deadicated album, "If you haven't got it in your collection, you should pick it up 'cause it's pretty neat."

Have a listen to the live version of Wharf Rat from this show...

At around 8 minutes in length, the Oils' version here almost approaches Grateful Dead-like territory as the band gets into a bit a dreamy jam through the last few minutes. Very cool and it's a shame they didn't keep it going for another awhile longer. Oh well.

Overall, a cool little show from this amazing Aussie band. I may have hopped on the bandwagon when they got popular here in the U.S. with Beds Are Burning but exploring all their albums and shows is a music treat and being a Deadhead, this one's gotta be the tastiest of all!

Nets Save Lives

Every 30 seconds a child dies from Malaria.

Concerts and beer and over-priced coffee and going to the movies and eating out are parts of our everyday generally selfish lives here in America. Even in economically hard times, we still splurge on ourselves in some way that truly is not needed. Meanwhile children die. We'd be giving every cent we have to save our very own children. Why, then, are concert tickets and going out to the bar more important than other children?

Just $10 can save a life.

I'm guessing everyone reading this can spare it if they wanted to temporarily cut something out of their lives.

Kinda Bluesy Run

Nicole Kidman and Keith UrbanThis is my space where I often bitch and complain but I'm going the opposite route right now. Normally I don't give a flying crap about celebrity news but this made me smile -- actress Nicole Kidman and her husband, country music star Keith Urban, donated $500,000 to the 2009 Victorian bushfire Fund to assist individuals and communities affected by devastating bushfires in Australia recently. There might not be a lot of Hope as advertised here in America... but Down Under, there is Hope amid the ashes.

If you'd like to help,
click the Red Cross banner or go to Redcross.org.au

Here's a video about Sam the Koala who survived the devastating fires...

Okay, I wasn't excited to run today but I also wasn't dreading it. It's been three days and that reminds me -- I wanted to add a feature to my running section...

there, done.

Anyway, I finally got over the 25 minute hump. I nearly always run strictly according to the Play List that I set up on my mp3 player and I was able to create today a Time that pushed me up nearly a third of a minute and finally once again above 25 minutes. Definitely I am pleased with that.

Somewhat chilly weather helped me along, helped to keep me positive the whole time. Body felt just fine, even my nagging mysterious Achilles heel strain. It comes and goes but it's not hindering me; just something to always be aware of. I'm tired now. I've set up a schedule for 10 runs in February and so it was important to get this done!! I'm looking forward to eclipsing my January time and HOPEFULLY getting to 4 total hours for the month.

Oh, hell yeah. Texas blues rock, baby. I'll betchya a million bucks Pigpen & Jerry used to dig this record back in the day. This makes me wanna go cruising the hiways and biways of Texas in a big 1970's Cadillac convertible, top down, kickin' back, sunglasses on, aimlessly going from wherever to wherever, blowing through insane amounts of fossil fuel and pissing off Al Gore by polluting his precious atmosphere, all the while having old ZZ Top blaring through the speakers.

All the songs here are standard length album songs but they pack a lot of music into each of them. From hard-driving to almost mellow, there's a good range here... but the blues rock guitar sound is always prevalent.

I haven't read any reviews of this album and I don't know if it's considered great or not but I dig it a lot and am really lookin' forward to more early 70's ZZ Top!

So Tired Saturday

100 Days of the Grateful Dead will finish off 2008 with some good stuff so everybody stay tuned! -- Zoooma needs a nap.

So badly I wanted to run today. I had a Running Play List ready but I can barely keep my eyes open. Being up all night then getting only about 5 hours sleep can do that. On the trail, all I'd want to do is quit my run and lay down. It would've been a colossal failure. My needed exercise will have to wait until tomorrow.

No tunes today. Well, I am gonna listen to what I'm gonna post up tomorrow and the next day but no download on this last Saturday of the year / Day 96 of 100 Days of the Dead. Hopefully Sugarmag and I will finish off the last 4 days strongly with something to please everyone.

Got any requests for 2009??? Yeah, yeah, more '77, I know. Besides that. If anyone's lookin' for a specific show or somethin' or whatever, anything within the Dead Family (all side projects included including after '95) don't be afraid to ask! Always happy to help!!

In the meantime -- have a lookie at this stuff...

C'mon C'mon Give Give Run Run

Alright, a day before Easter! Or is it Secretary's Day? Some holiday. Beats me.

Hey, listen, if you're reading this, please click the Kettle over on the left and think about giving a buck or two to help out people in need? We should never rely on our governments to help everyone especially when to get a 10¢ muffin into someone's mouth, it'll cost taxpayers about 12 dollars. Inept politicians shouldn't be relied on to do anything right. It's up to each of us to help our neighbors, our brothers and sisters in this world. After all, it could be us in such a position where we need help. You don't have to donate a lot of money to donate. Organizations welcome even a dollar or two. Listen, I know times might be tough but selfishness shouldn't rule our lives. Yeah, we want nice things, we want to spend on this and that... but there are needs greater than our own out there.

So maybe you'll give? That would be really cool. Thanks for reading :)

I knew this morning was gonna be a good run. How I knew -- I don't know.
I just knew. Ya know?

The sky being overcast I actually like. The weather was colder a couple days ago but a warm front moved back in and it's not so frigid... unfortunately. I like cold!!!!!!!! 49 still means long-sleeve running (hiking) shirt but at the end of my run, I kinda felt like I could've used a short-sleeve -- warm. Glad I went with short-sleeve 'cause on the way to the trail I was almost shivering.

Dealt with a runny nose all through my run but I felt good. I had the energy and I can't recall a single instance of my mind telling me -- "Stop, this is too much work, stop, you're too tired, stop, Gumby dammit." None of that this morning and that usually happens. When I hit my End Cue I felt great and barely slowed down. Yeah, I ended the pace I was at but I walked on without missing a beat.

Wolfed down nearly 20 ounces of water as soon as I got back but again --
a good run it was!

(And great running music, too!!!!!!!!!!)

*** And holy moly, I'm glad I went when I did 'cause we just had a brief downpour and if I was out there I woulda been freezing my ass off. Hypothermia anyone? It doesn't have to be freezing temps to become hypothermic, it often occurs when temps are only in the 50's range and even into the low 60's.

I've dug Sheryl Crow since way way back when she released her first album and had that hit "Leaving Las Vegas." Wasn't that the name of her first hit song? I know that was a movie with Nick Cage and Elisabeth Shue but am I confusing that with the proper song title? No matter. Whatever. In any case, I've never owned an album of hers but roommates through the years have and so I've had lots of Sheryl Crow in my ears.

This album doesn't offer a lot in the way of rockin' tunes and I guess that's why she's considered "Adult Alternative." Sheesh, just 'cause someone's an adult, does that mean they can't have LOUD ROCKING music in their life?!?!?!?!?! Hell no!

Still, there's a lot of good music here. Don Henley and Lenny Kravitz each join in on a tune and another someone or other on another tune or two, as well.

Anyway, I haven't a lot more to say about it as I'm not a music critique nor do I aspire to be. I like what I like and I like this just fine. And who can't dig Steve McQueen or Soak Up The Sun!? What great songs!

Abandoned and suffering...

If you're reading this, and you haven't had any desire to help fill the Salvation Army kettle that I've set up, maybe you'll want to help this cause. Or not. Whatever. I've lost faith in human beings, in general. Many have amazing hearts, and they know there are more important things than music, but too many are just selfish [$%@#'s] who will always place more value in their Starbucks triple mocha latte than in helping others in need.

Maybe you're different. I hope so

People are important but so are animals. We love them as if they're family. So why's it okay to let them suffer? It's not.

There's always need. There's always lack of money to meet those needs. Give! It will make you feel better to help others, won't it? Especially at Christmas?

Somehow I let myself slip... again... 6 days since my last run. During the week I'm generally just fine with it (not that I should be) and then when it comes to getting that run done, thinking about the fact that I let myself go so long between runs, I feel pathetic. I'm not a self-loathing person, though. I just get down on myself for taking so long between runs. I SHOULD be out there at least once every 3 days. Crap.

Well, I got it done, though. I got it done.

Due to the fact that it's been 6 days without running, I didn't add much time. I labored through the last ten minutes or so... I really wanted to stop... but I persisted and made it. So not easy. A couple was walking their dog on the trail and when I saw them I just wanted to stop to pet the dog. At that point it wasn't so much about petting the dog, it would've been a GREAT excuse to stop. I did try to say hi as I ran by -- not easy as I was so spent and so dying.

I made it, though. Holy crap, I made it somehow.

If I got out there more often than once a week or so, I wouldn't have such a hard time, I'm sure. Dang it. Damn me.

Not a bad second album from Weezer. My God, it's pathetic that some company with the name Pinkerton sued to stop this album from getting released with this name. How lame is that? Supposedly the record label held back from promoting the album as much as they did Weezer's debut and that hurts sales. Still it did just fine. And interestingly, in a Rolling Stone poll, readers voted this one of the worst albums of 1996. Who cares?!?! Would you really not buy an album if 1,000 people say it sucks? What if you'd like it?
