Running with Eagles

Irrationality is irrational. That is all.

I ran...

The North Face trail running shoe -- good for use in the Appalachian Mountains ... but seriously, they are rather small compared to the Rocky Mountains ... Sierra Nevada are sweet, too. Would definitely use 'em in the Alps, that's for sure. One thing's for sure -- Jerry Garcia or Bob Weir or Phil Lesh or Blaise Compaoré probably never went running in Liberia, Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, Pyongyang, Probably the same with Brent Mydland. At least that's my gut feeling. I could be wrong. I mean, there were a lot of drugs at Grateful Dead shows and the good Lord above, He knows I did my share!

Not much to say. I'm not sure how almost a whole week has gone by since my last run. That's not good. But I needed to get out, I knew that... and did.

So cold! I've run when it's been MUCH colder but for this part of South Carolina, today it's freakin' cold out! Running when it's cold is totally what I prefer. Decided to turn around mid-run and try to finish up closer to the start of the trail rather than hike back for 30 or 40 minutes. I actually couldn't wait to finish and be back inside! I love the cold but I wasn't so prepared for today.

The run itself went just fine. I was full (enough) of energy. Didn't get a ton o' sleep last night but once I got my my butt into my running clothes, once I got my butt to the trail, once I knew I was going to soon hear my Start Cue -- I was ready to go. I'm pretty tired now and all I wanna do is veg out and do nothing... but that was a million percent worth it.

Meandering through the catalog of the Eagles I've gone back to the beginning. Sometimes a debut album really explodes a band onto "the scene" ... but not so much with this one. It charted and I guess didn't do too badly... but it's not as strong as future releases from them, namely Hotel California. A few of the songs are not very appealing to me like Most Of Us Are Sad? Who was Bernie Leadon? Thank goodness he wasn't in the band long. I don't know what else to say about it. Not all great but I suppose okay. A few songs became some of their most popular but overall it's just eh. Well, one more thing to note is the banjo (played by Leadon) on Earlybird and Peaceful Easy Feeling. I've heard Peaceful Easy Feeling like 1,000 times but I don't believe I've ever heard the banjo! It's good stuff!!

Eagles Run

When I get back from a run all I wanna really do is veg out and do nothing. But here I am typing this up... just like usual. I'm so tired that my mind isn't actually working so well. One of the consequences of that is I just can't think of nuttin' to post about. Nuttin'. Seriously -- nuttin'.

Bob Dylan, too. Many soundboard recordings to still post up here one o' these days! Many, many so stay tuned!

Dag nabbit, the high temperature at midday meant I had to adjust my Running Time to something not as long as before. Oh well.

Part One -- 11:42 ... While today was hot (is still hot) it's not really that bad and so 11:42 was fairly easy. The first long song was a relative breeze but song 2 at only like 4 minutes something, that was a little more difficult... or perhaps truly a lot more difficult. I turned around roughly halfway through the time and headed back to my Gatorade.

Intermission -- no sitting. I grabbed my Gatorade and walked for awhile. I knew I'd have one more running song coming up, really wanted to run to that song to add onto My Total Time, but just wasn't sure. It was freakin' warm!!! I was beat but after walking awhile...

Part Two -- 4:07 ... not really a problem. At the end of Part One my shirt and shorts were just drenched in sweat then by the end of Part Two the sweat needed to be wrung out and my shirt. Not even in the 90's but still just a hot run that exhausted the crap out of me.

On top of the running, I was out on foot for nearly an hour and a half -- 90 minutes including Running Time and about 25-30 minutes going to and from the trail. Overall a kinda significant time out there considering the time of day and weather conditions.

Not the best Running Time but I'm darn glad I got it done!

The Eagles have seemingly always been a part of this musical life but I'm not sure I've ever once heard a studio album of theirs. Always it's been the Greatest Hits albums and Live albums and that's been sufficient. In this new age of acquiring albums finally I got my hands on this gem.

Listening through this over and over, several times over the past couple weeks, it's almost no wonder that this is considered to be one of the best albums ever recorded. That's one feeling. But at the same time I wonder because Pretty Maids All In A Row and Wasted Time don't feel like Best Ever quality. Eh, I guess the others can help make up for those.
