One of the leaders in the post-punk movement of the mid to late-80's in England, The Cult really burst onto the scene with this album which contains their first huge hit -- She Sells Sanctuary. Overall it's pretty good collection of songs. One thing that helps a lot here is they aren't quick, compact songs. Reaching 5 and 5½ and 6 minutes means they've got space to jam. Even though they later opened for Aerosmith and Metallica, I wouldn't call them hard rock. Yeah, some of their songs rock and you really should be turning them up LOUD but they're truly not in that general rock and roll category. Rock radio stations might occasionally play a song or two of theirs but "alternative" stations play their music far more frequently, I'm sure. And hmmm, apparently they'll be on tour this summer and maybe with a new studio album. That might be a cool show to see but as always, older stuff is better!
63-64° this morning. Oh man... so beautiful the weather was. I went outside to supervise my dawg on little stroll and the stars were bright in the sky. Unfortunately there's a friggin' church right nearby with a big parking lot that's lit up all night long (Al Gore's not happy about that, I'm sure) so all that ambient light really screwed up about a third of my view. Very inconsiderate of them but oh well. I guess Southern Baptists like to waste energy.
ANYWAY... a beautiful night/morning it was. In this part of South Carolina it's disgustingly hot every single freakin' day. It's just horrible. But this morning I was practically chilly while outside. In Alaska I'd need socks and hiking boots and a warm fleece jacket right now, or at least when the sun goes down (shorts would still be okay 'cause I'm nuts like that), but here being chilly at this time of the year, no, that just hasn't freakin' happened until last night/this morning. Barefoot, shorts and a t-shirt had me wanting socks and a long-sleeve t-shirt. Finally, maybe, the thermometer wills start dipping enough to not sweat through your clothes when you just walk to the curb to get the mail from the mailbox. Oi.

A little freakin' warm this evening. Okay -- hot. Not wicked hot but still hot.
15 minute walk to the trail before I started actually running and before running there was stretching for a few minutes. When that was done I was already halfway soaked with sweat.
Part One was planned to give me a good amount of running in this heat without overheating and dying. Even though it has been a PATHETIC 5 days since my last run, I felt okay... for the most part. It felt easy for about the first half but after I turned around and headed back to my Gatorade, that last half, for about 7 minutes or so -- not so easy.
Intermission -- walking and Gatorade. No running for about 20 minutes was nice. I knew I had another song to run to cued and soon to come but I wasn't so sure I gave a damn.
Part Two -- I gave a damn and when I heard the Start Cue I made sure to run and git 'er done. I'm glad I did. Part Two's are often a piece of cake. I dunno why but they are.
My Total Time today was down from 20 minutes but it was really hot. Stoopid me for not running at dawn. Oh well. One of these days I've got to start doing that 'cause my time will undoubtedly escalate very, very nicely.

Been a long time since I've listened to The Cult. I've had some friends / roommates who owned some CDs of theirs and so some of their music is/was familiar to me. That was like ten years ago. So like with many bands/artists, I dig starting way back at the beginning/as close to the beginning as possible and I decided I check out some old Cult for running.
Much of the album has a Native American theme and from start to finish I thought it was pretty good stuff. It's got a gothic quality to it, it's well within the realm of "alternative" but most definitely not "hard rock." Two or three tunes have a loud, rockin' sound but a lot of it is kind of dark and somewhat mellow.
I'm really tired so that's about all I have to say about this album. I will add that one o' these days I'll be lookin' forward to more Cult when running.
