Straight Outta Locash

CB4 (1993)

Chris Rock stars in this "rapumentary" about a geek wannabe rap star. Unfortunately
there isn't much substance here. The movie focuses on the rap industry and a slice of life that I know next to nothing about. A better film would have allowed me to feel connected to the characters and the story. This did not.

On the plus side, there are quite a few funny moments so one does not have to be a fan of rap music to appreciate much of the comedy here. This is early Chris Rock, his first starring role and made during the end of his short stint on Saturday Night Live, before he really truly came into his own as a giant in comedy. He's not hogging the sole spotlight here but one can really get a feel of his impending greatness.

Overall the movie is kinda sick in some ways, immensely vulgar and has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It is fairly funny, though. But if it had no laughs it would rate even lower.
