Moses come riding up on a quasar...

TERRAPINSWas it last night that American Idol had it's season finale? Or the night before? One or the other. They picked the 2008 winner. I'm so sad that I missed it. How could I have let that happen?!? What am I gonna do?!?

No time to be sad, I'm already perplexed by American Airlines deciding to charge you if you want to bring more baggage than a carry-on. You've got to be kidding me. I don't travel much right now so it doesn't really affect me but it could and... I dunno, it's just another symbol of the slowly crumbling airline industry. Those big metal tubes flying through the skies weren't built to be economical with fuel prices as high as they are. Airlines are struggling and on top of that they generally offer horrible service. Soon they'll be charging to use the lavatory, you'll have to fork over 50¢ to read a magazine, you'll have to pay a fee to actually get on and off the plane, etc. It's nuts. Oh, and speaking of nuts -- there'll be no more peanuts... or $1 a bag, one or the other.

Oil companies should be proud, they're ripping everyone off and they don't care. Our government should be proud, they waste money like crazy while doing nothing to bring about widespread and cheaper alternative energy. And now we're in the midst of more politicians spending like HALF A BILLION DOLLARS to get one person elected.

Yet this is still a great country. Every year people come here from every single nation on this entire planet to make a better life for themselves. Meanwhile people already here struggle in this economy... but struggling Americans have it better than most everyone else outside of our borders. Crazy world.

DANCING BEARAt least there's good music to listen to!
Similar to the last show, my most recent upload for everyone is one I listened to last year, before this blog had mp3 downloads. I thought it would be a good idea to go and fill all those shows in with downloads. Why not.

This is sweet show! Eyes is nearly flawless, Phil is great to listen to especially on that and Crazy Fingers and Black Peter. Bobby is just amazing on rhythm and the jam at the end of Truckin' -- holy cow, man... holy cow. I don't know how they were able to finally put the brakes on and pull out of it to go into Spoonful. Everything was perfect at that moment. Truckin' often surprises me, I mean here's like the world's most famous Grateful Dead song, played rather often, and still the crowd LOVES it and the boys can just rock the living hell out of it. Wow. Just wow.

In the first set, Bird Song doesn't make a transition into Let It Grow but those two songs back-to-back makes for just an awesome 24+ minutes of music.

I almost now want to put a 1-year moratorium on uploads because if I listen and review a show and then wait a year to add download links, that'll give me reason to listen to the show two or three more times. As it is now, because there's just so much music to get to, and not enough of life, I enjoy these and then they're gone, sort of. Wow, talk about a downer.

Anyway... always more good stuff around the corner.

For now -- click the ticket to be transported... magically around a corner... to the post where the download's at, when I originally listened to this show.

Enjoy!TICKET 3/25/90

Hiya Chris,

I hate American Idol, I don't know why it's still on or why anyone watches it. I just don't get it. Oh, and I hate flying.

I really enjoyed reading your review of that show from 1990. Wow, what a set list. You would have been a senior in high school I think. I always liked Quinn the Eskimo, and so many of those other songs (like um let's see... Eyes ;-)), of course! I will have to listen to it later, fun! I like your click on the ticket trick, that's pretty slick.

I can't believe you said you hate American Idol. You've got to be careful how you phrase those words. That's worse than burning the flag, I think. Welcome to Guantanamo, Sugar Mag! Yeah, that's what you'll hear if you're not careful!

Really? No one feels that strongly about American Idol, do they? I guess every once in awhile someone mentions that show and it always surprises me when someone says they watch it. I mean seriously, it is not even fun to watch, it's boring. You know, like if something is kinda dumb but fun, that I understand. Like I used to watch Sex And the City, it's fluff, but fun fluff, if that makes sense. But American Idol? It's been done to death and it wasn't even good the first time.

You know, when I had my first baby I watched TV a lot during the day and I used to watch the Today Show and (don't tell anyone) I watched a soap opera for awhile (I'm so embarrassed) and I felt much more in touch with popular culture. It is not worth it to go back to watching the Today Show, though. Too much noise.

I think more people voted for the American idol final than in the Presidential election. It's a huge, crazy part of pop culture right now. Still strong, apparently. I watch enough news to see that they give it attention... because that's what TV news does, pays attention to what's hot and now in pop culture.

But I'm with you on the whole not caring about it.

Although... if I had to choose one, I'd pick that over soap operas! Talk about INSANE. Anyone who watches those or who used to at one time, like when they were pregnant -- boy, I dunno about that person.

;)

Well, I wasn't pregnant, I had a new baby so I spent a lot of time sitting around nursing and watching TV. I won't pretend the soap I watched was good, I got bored with it. I guess it came on after The View, and that's why I started watching it. I know, that's pretty bad! I did better with my second baby-I was better at nursing and could hold a book so I read a lot. That was more satisfying but I have to admit that I kind of wish I could still watch TV Food Network-I like watching people cook. Now I don't even watch TV news.

one says one number and the other another
but they were set at the same time. Hmmm...

i love you amy uzarski. always!
