He's Gone

It's interesting to have the Mets game start just after 8 o'clock in the morning. Weird but that's Alaska for ya! Hopefully today they won't almost blow it like last night in the top of the 9th when Wagner allowed the enemy to load the bases with no outs. Very bad. Very very very bad!

But beisbol be berry berry good on a day like today. And later at 4 there's football on, American football that is, not to be confused with real football which, of course, for some wacked out reason, is known in America as soccer. It's pre-season football but still cool. Colts-Cowboys I believe. Then the Cubs are on at 5. So some nice distractions for this blah day.

12 years ago this day was the worst ever for me.
Worst ever for so many.
I've had a couple worse days since but today's still tough.

In a way it doesn't feel like 12 years since Jerry died...

sometimes feels like maybe just a few,
but sometimes it feels like a hundred.

In any case -- no marathon of Dead or Jerry today. I'm not gonna cry or nothin' but it'll be a somber day. I've got a little music cued up and ready to Press Play on, soon as the Mets game is over... which'll especially help if they lose to the Braves. BAD Mets. BAD team!!!! If they lose this game they don't deserve post-season play! Jerks. Still a few innings left to not be. Yes, the whole season is in the balance right here in this game. Well, it feels like it against this team. Anyway...

he woulda been 65. And 20 years ago, he looked 65. Heroin and chocolate doughnuts are very bad things.
what a waste.

A bad 12 years ago for sure. That day I called my friend to tell him the news about Jerry and he cried. My friend then told me he had just found he was HIV positive.
When you said it was the worst day ever, I thought you might have actually been the guy I'm talking about, but I know it's not you.

Uhh, nope, no diseases, infections, or anything cancerous here.

Up until that point in my life, I never had anyone close to me pass away. Not that Jerry and I were close... but there was a relationship there that many Deadheads understand. So losing him was the worst blow I've ever felt and that's what made it the worst day ever for me.

Hey zoomba. I'm at the PGA championship this time channeling jack Straw, but saw your nice piece and wanted to say hi. Great remembrance. While Jerry the Great is gone, music still goes on, so raise your glass in toast and smile knowing Jerry's up there at a party with Entwhisle, Pig, Janis and all the greats at a bluegrass jam in the sky smiling down all all of us who love him.
