Encore: Just Like Tom Thumb's Blues-> Touch Of Grey
This show gets launched with Jerry turning in a great vocal performance on Aiko. Definitely some good energy flowin' here and Bob's Little Red Rooster gives the crowd another chance to participate (they had their clapping part on Aiko, here they play the part of the hounds howling.) A very nice version. All around a good first set but on the short side at around 51 minutes.
The second set has Jerry pretty soon blowing lyrics on China Cat. It's made up for with a nice transition into Rider; the crowd is really feelin' things come together here. It's not perfect but up steps Bobby to give a really good bunch of ooommf to the sun that's gonna shine on his backdoor someday. So nice. But... what'll Jerry do? Well, on my fourth listen in a row of Jerry wishing he was a headlight on a northbound train -- I got shivers. Wow. There could be about a dozen exclamation marks on the end of that wow but I'm... just... was it really that good? What I am is almost at a loss for words. Wow. Life is worth living and that Rider proves it!
A really good Looks Like Rain follows but to top Rider will be difficult. Sadly, Crazy Fingers is on the complete opposite end of the spectrum -- listeners who don't want to hear Jerry suck should skip it. It pains me to say that but eh, what are ya gonna do? Musically it's got some beautiful passages in it; the song woulda been great played as an instrumental (Lots of lyrics blown Big Time.)
Truckin' and Drums steam forward and before long Space quickly morphs into a bit of a Spanish Jam. It's never that pronounced but the Space-y Spanish Jam gorgeously flows in The Other One. Here the band isn't just steaming forward, they're barreling and it's fully punctuated by sound man Dan Healy's manipulation of Bob's vocals.
A bit of redemption for Jerry comes with Stella Blue -- it's picture perfect before the Lovelight romp gives the fans one last dance before the encore.
Oh and speaking of the encore -- Tom Thumb's-> Touch? What?! That's interesting and very well played. What a cool way to end this 3-night HJK stand and send people out into the Oakland night.
If you have no desire to listen to all of this show, just do yourself a favor and listen to the China->Rider! You won't be disappointed!!

Good show Zoooma, maybe a few moments where Jerry was not at his best, but wow, yeah that He's Gone, imagine what being there was like! I liked that Spanish Jam a whole lot, too.
Heya anonymous! Sorry about your weird funk but I'm glad I made your night :) The Iko is really nice, Jerry's on and havin' fun! Rest of the show has some lyric muffs but it's alright, for the most part, and the China->Rider alone is enough to make someone's whole week a good one!

I was at the Phila nd Phriends show in NYC last Friday. Much much much fun was had! They get better and better!
Cool. But did they play Tom Thumb's-> Touch?
P.S. they get better and better? Phil's not in a rocking chair yet? Dude's gotta retire eventually. What's he now, like 94?
