10. Raid :: Elián González. Sadly, the Deputy Attorney General at the time, Eric Holder, is now being considered for Attorney General in the next presidential administration.

When the pathetic U.S. government took Elián González, it was the first time in the history of this great nation that custody of a child was transferred using authoritarian jackboot thug tactics executed by masked, combat-ready, heavily armed men. Should I mention that sticking a fully automatic weapon into an innocent child's face is not acceptable? Yet that's what they did and Eric Holder is partially responsible for that. That poor little boy was scared shitless by our government's actions. I'd've been scared shitless, too, if I knew I was going to be shipped back to a scumbag communist controlled land. Here in America -- Elián was FREE. There's he's just a casualty of evil, a possession of Fidel Castro.

This should NEVER have happened. The U.S. Immigration and Naturalization Service awarded custody to Elián's uncle. A family court judge had decided that he would be the best custodian for the boy. A ruling was made that Elián must remain in the United States until his custodial family could file for an asylum hearing. Before that, dipshit Attorney General Janet Reno, serving under President Bill Clinton, ordered that Elián be removed from his family and deported to Cuba.

In the request for a Search Warrant presented to a federal judge, the claim was made that Elián was being kept against his will, that he was being kidnapped!!

They lied. Eric Holder and Janet Reno, under Bill Clinton -- they lied. They chose to defy a court order, to carry out a Gestapo-type raid on the home of Elián González, and to spit in the face of Freedom.

I'm sorry, president-elect, but sticking a fully automatic weapon into a terrified little boy's face, that's NOT how you transfer child custody in this nation. Yet the man you want for Attorney General, that's what he was part of. He was a part of allowing Communism to win. Elián González's mother DIED trying to give Freedom to her child. She died, you piece of shit. She died. Yet someone you support wanted to return him to the prison he came from and take away that Freedom.

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.

How does shoving a weapon into a child's face in order to ship him back to Cuba fit into that?

P.S. did I mention his mom DIED trying to give her child Freedom in America? And your man for Attorney General -- Eric Holder -- was part of pissing on the memory of that dead woman who just wanted what was best for her son. Pathetic.

If anyone can be called a kidnapper in this case, who do you think it is? Elian's uncle or Janet Reno and Eric Holder? Hmmmm.... I wonder.

And so ain't it just lovely that Eric Holder might become the top law enforcement officer of the land? Is that the mentality we want in the White House and the Justice Department? We want to protect children, don't we? DON'T WE?!?!?! To place a child where he or she will be abused and treated as a possession is WRONG. I thought there was going to be change with the new president. Change for the worse apparently. Isn't that special.

Hey Zoooma, interesting mutterings. Hoo boy Elian Gonzales, part of me does think that he did belong with his father but either way, the raid was completely unjustified. There was no reason for a child to experience that.

And excuse me but aren't we trying to GIVE unalienable rights to citizens in Iraq? Which unalienable rights did they have under Hussein? Which unalienable rights does Elian Gonzalez now have? Can he choose freedom now? No, thanks to Janet Reno and Eric Holder and Bill Clinton.

Will it be right for Eric Holder to be top law enforcement officer of this land? Someone who wants to TAKE AWAY FREEDOM? Hell no.

And who's worried about Communists? Such a thing was never uttered or even hinted at.

It's really difficult but the best thing, Deadman, is to just ignore them and maybe they'll go slither back into the sludge from which they crawled forth to spew such pathetic crap.

You'd hope they'd get some sense and learn... but that's really askin' way too much from their kind.

Ummm...a couple of things. I looked around for footage of this incident on you tube and you know what? The video didn't make me feel better about it. I agree that a child belongs with his father but I am really not comfortable with the way it was handled. One more thing, Anonymous (by the way, I voted for Obama), and if I were talking to you I would say this r e a l l y s l o w l y, just because a person does not like Obama does not make him a racist, ya' got that? Throwing around the "N word" and accusing another person of being a racist because he does not like a politician who happens to be African American is uncalled for. Ya know what else? Fuck off.

Deadman :) I know yer trying to be nice and you seem like a nice guy, but do you realize how offensive it is to call someone an Oreo? One of the criticisms of Obama in the beginning was that he was not black enough, and that's bullshit. Does a person have to be poor and uneducated and eat lots of fried chicken to be black enough? Can an intelligent black man go to Harvard and still be black? Of course he can.

hey...my fault.
From the outside this looked like a music blog, but once inside it's clearly a hangout for impotent, fearful old men who are addicted to booze and misery.

But one thing I've learned from my job is that those types never change. They love to have something to complain about. Being unhappy makes them happy. Insane? Probably. But most seem to have damaged their bodies with years of boozing and eating crap which is enough to cause anyone's outlook, body and mind to deteriorate by the time they reach 60.

I should be more understanding of guys who reach that time in their lives when they are no longer capable of being productive and it's just a matter of waiting around to die, while railing against the world and wallowing in self pity. However, if it weren't for them, I might have to get a real job.

But it has not been a total loss. From the old timers here I have gained an understanding of how things got to be in the mess they are. Irresponsibility, fear and outdated concepts are all the previous generation had to offer. Certainly they are a disappointment to their parents (the "greatest generation") and a liability for their children.

I'd tell you guys to have a nice day, but clearly you are happier having a shitty day.

Hi again Anonymous, I'm not sure why I'm responding to you, guess I am feeling argumentative. This is a music blog, but it is also a personal blog and people often express their opinions in their blogs. Note the running posts.

I'm not sure which old men you're referring to, I'm a 35 year old woman and Zoooma is a 36 year old man. We both strive for physical fitness, are moderately attractive, and are both mostly happy, though no one can be happy all the time. Also, I sometimes drink too much, I just really like wine. And scotch. But anyway...I try not to over do it. And I'm having a good day! Earlier I had lunch with my parents and a relative who I rarely see, they took me out to lunch, and it was nice and now I'm hanging out with my kids. We are just people and not everyone has the same opinion about everything. Wouldn't life be boring if we all agreed all of the time?

How can you be so unhappy with life that you can't wean yourself from the bottle? I know the older generation LOVES its drugs. I can't imagine destroying my brain and body with any alcohol and thinking I'm striving for health in ANY way...much less trying to raise children in such an environment. But I understand. The clients I work with all think they don't overdo it...it's the sinister nature of drugs, isn't it? You can stop any time you like!

Tell ya what. You old folks just kick back in your Lay-Z-Boys, pop open a couple more Blue Ribbons and let the suds and TV render your brains as numb as your nuts. We'll clean up your mess, pay off the enormous debt you left us and restore America to its position as a world leader and economic power.

Yes, you are entitled to your opinions. Of course, your generation has no opinions. You get them from sound bites and televangelists and Dr. Phil. You can't even summon up a sober minute to offer an original opinion on the music. It's easier to just cut and paste someone else's opinion, eh? Of course! You wouldn't want to sully your buzz with anything as strenuous as thought...much less original thought.

Of course it would be boring if we agreed all the time. If my generation agreed with the outdated political, religious and social concepts of your generation, we'd be the LAST American generation. But we do appreciate you sending us to a war for no good reason and on top of it, making us pay for it for the rest of our lives. Is good, no? We wouldn't want you to have to pay for your mistakes. That's what you have children for. Mistakes to pay for your mistakes.

We are on to you. We know all of your lame justifications for why you did what you did with this country. They all say the same thing. You are a lazy and irresponsible generation. Your time is through. The torch has been passed.

And for the record, happiness is a choice, and it is most certainly possible to be happy all the time. It's all a matter of your thoughts proceeding from a place of gratitude rather than from a place of greed. Happiness isn't for everyone. The alcohol companies would go out of business...and then I'd be out of a job.

For being younger than my parents, you guys seem so much older...like life has become a chore instead of a continually unfolding cosmic adventure.

Seeing as how I don't drink, I tend not to fight women. I don't get a kick out of the whole macho thing. I understand the fear behind it, as Zoooma and Deadman have expressed so eloquently.
LOL

I just hope I don't lose my lust for life by my mid 30s. I hope I don't end up believing there is only one path...even though we've been down it and found it to lead nowhere. There is no power but love.
