Change Is Happening!!!!!!!!

There's definitely something going on today, something big. And it shouldn't be taken lightly. Today is Día de la Bandera en Panamá. That's Flag Day for you people who only speak German or American or whatever. And I ain't talkin' Panama City where idiot college kids ritualistically gather to drink till they puke and/or score with as many sorority chicks as they can. Panamá, fool... i.e. Noriega, U.S. Marine Corp, U.S. Army, public display of the might of the American Armed Forces, Van Halen, some big canal. Yeah, that Panamá. And today's their Flag Day, a National Freakin' Holiday, helping proud Panamanians remember the day Panamá gained independence from those pesky Colombians, November 3, 1903. So Wave That Flag, Wave It Wide And High!

There was also football on today! Real football, none of that American crap. Okay, I actually do like American football but today the real game was on, the beautiful game. Atlético Madrid vs. Liverpool and Liverpool scored the equalizer at about the 4½ minute mark of extra time. Soooooo sweet and what a saviour of a goal for Liverpool. (Since I don't follow European sports closely, only watch when I can, I don't really know what the consequences woulda been for Liverpool had they lost 1-0 at home but IT WAS EXCITING!!!!!!!! Yes, Virginia, soccer can be exciting!!!) Roma vs. Chelsea is up next! Thanks, ESPN!!!

What else? There's something else about today but I'm not sure what it is. Oh, that's right, there's this for all you archaeologists (or former archaeologists) out there or if you just happen to be interested in archaeology or Indiana Jones or... mummies, I guess...

Today in 1922, in Egypt, British archaeologist Howard Carter and his men find the entrance to King Tutankhamun's tomb in the Valley of the Kings. Hey, Howie, ever hear of "R.I.P."???

And for those interested in the advancement of women in America, two years later on this date, Nellie Tayloe Ross of Wyoming is elected as the first female governor in the United States. Way to go, Nellie!

One more thing about today, what the heck is it? Oh yeahhhhhhhh...
Change Is Happening!!! And I can taste it!! Literally!!!

You see, today is the very first day (of the season) that Egg Nog is being sold down at ye olde local grocery store. Mmm mmmm, calories!!!

It's beginning to taste a lot like Christmas!!!

God, I love Egg Nog... and that's why I went for a...
The North Face trail running shoe -- good for use in the Appalachian Mountains ... but seriously, they are rather small compared to the Rocky Mountains ... Sierra Nevada are sweet, too. Would definitely use 'em in the Alps, that's for sure. One thing's for sure -- Jerry Garcia or Bob Weir or Phil Lesh or Blaise Compaoré probably never went running in Liberia, Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, Pyongyang, Probably the same with Brent Mydland. At least that's my gut feeling. I could be wrong. I mean, there were a lot of drugs at Grateful Dead shows and the good Lord above, He knows I did my share!

More disappointment. Sort of. Twas 6 days since my last run. TOO MANY. That's just pathetic. I want to be one of those people who cares about their health. No. Wait. I mean I want to be one of those who people who not only care about their health but actively takes steps to be in good health. Being overweight only leads to problems in life. Why live like that when you can enjoy life better when you're healthier? Makes sense, right?!

But once in six days is better than nothing, right, Ame?

Nice run. Weather is conducive for good runs now. I wanted to add more than half a minute but not having run in six days made me not push it too much. Still I added and with weather like this and runs of this length -- no water or Gatorade needed. Without the heat, dehydration is next to non-existent. Longer runs and yes, I would need some liquid intake. Right now there's just no need. It's okay even being out there for a little over an hour (time to walk to trail, run out, hike back, walk back from the trail = sometimes an hour and ten or twenty minutes.)

Anyway... not bad but in November I've absolutely got to do better.

This was the second Chili Peppers album I owned circa 1988 or so, right after I had their next album (Uplift Mofo Party Plan) I got this one... and then not too long after, that's when their breakthrough album came out: Mother's Milk.

Anyway, been a long, long, long time since I've heard this. It's quite a contrast from their debut album just about one year earlier. That was rough and punkish a whole lot more than this. Freaky Styley is like P-funk and in fact it was produced by none other than George Clinton.

Definitely not even close to the best Chili Peppers, methinks... but still a very cool collection of tunes.

You just HAVE to love the R.H.C.P. I saw them on the Mother's Milk Tour (around 1990) with Pearl Jam as the opening band (who? we'd never heard of 'em) at the Murat Theater in Indianapolis. Anyone who's been there knows what a great place it is to see a show. I just remember how energetic both the band and the crowd were that night. It led to to being a life-long R.H.C.P. fan. I've never been much of a rap fan (other than the Jurassic 5 and Beastie Boys), but I like the combo of rap and funk the Chilis produce. Great choice for a post Zoooma, as not a lot of people know the older R.H.C.P. stuff. Adam

Hey Zoooma, glad you ran and yes, once every six days is better than to at all. You know what? Feel good about today! Just don't wait so long before next time!

Hey Adam, I've been to the Murat-saw Phish there. It was a cool venue.
