Walk Me Out In The October Dew Today

Welcome to October. The Final Quarter of the Year begins. The Final 100 Days of 2008 is almost 1/10 done already. Man, I'm a-tellin' ya, tis gonna be 2009 before we know it!
Here in the Final 100 Days of 2008, there's a push on to put up, well, as many shows as possible. That hasn't meant and won't mean a show every single day... but most days. Occasionally there'll be some time off for me. I'll still be listening, just not posting. There was a stretch over the summer where 100 days had about 4 or 5 shows posted here? Despicable, I know. This 100 Days of the Dead is a time to make up for that! Not doin' too bad so far, eh?
Listen -- this ain't just about music. Tis also about giving. Give: Your Money, Your Time... some of both? One or the other? Sometimes people think they've gotta give a lot if they're gonna give at all. Not true. Even a single dollar or two helps make a difference when organizations work to do great things in this world. Even a buck or two.
So if there's something in particular that you think you might wanna give to, feel free to check out Network For Good. You can find tons and tons of charities... surely there's an organization out there whose work will touch your heart and make you wanna fork over a little green for a cause greater than yourself. Yeah? Check it out!

A kickin' Bucket launches this night perfectly. On and rockin' and that continues right through a crowd-pleasing Sugaree. Only a couple songs in and you can tell they're diggin' this show (the band and fans alike.) Rooster gives a chance for Brent to shine and the place loves it. Could there be a better way to kick off the month of October in 1988? I think not!
Friend Of The Devil and Queen Jane are both just so freakin' nice; great emotion from Jerry, great emotion from Bobby, lots of Brent, beautiful sound... mmmm!
Ahh well, there are some lyrics flubbed in TN Jed but it's still essentially so sweet to my ears as is Cassidy. Jerry is hitting every note, driving the rest to a nice crescendo, only to bring 'er back down to a nicely satisfying conclusion. Not the longest or best ever, not even for '88, I'm sure, but so what? It's still yummy!
This was a rather brief 1st Set -- clocking in at just under 60 minutes -- but it's almost an hour of music that never disappoints.
The second set really gets going after Victim. Jerry's got some kind of funky energy through Scarlet, he's got some cool emotion goin' -- you've gotta hear the moment immediately following "Everybody's playing in the heart of gold band, heart of gold band." What is that? I don't know but that was interesting. Scarlet isn't smokin' by any means, it kinda runs out of room before Fire. Jer then flubs a line here, a line there but the overall feel remains groovy with a good level of emotion and plenty of sweet guitar from Garcia to lift the Heads in the shed just enough to keep them dancin' and smilin'.
Drums already? Hmm.
I dunno about these Other Ones, sometimes, when they're so short. It forms out of Space soooo perfectly and the band's got near-monster sound but... it's freakin' sweet but... me wants more! Instead of what they should do (find a way-cool jam to groove on for awhile) they steer into a romping little Miracle. Okay. Not loved by all... but it's fun and gets me dancin'!
The true beauty of Set 2, methinks, is Dew. Uncle John's going into it is so nice and, while not perfect, it makes for a great way to (almost) end this night of music. Jerry's noodling is so nice and what a beautiful way to kick back and go "Ahhhhh. Thanks."
