Let's see what someone in the Compendium has to say about the show:

by TOM DONALDSON

The Stanley is a beautiful theater along the lines of the Warfield; it sounds great everywhere. Although more folks are more familiar with what followed "He's Gone" the next night, this night definitely holds its own. The "Alabama" is hot, with Brent's keyboards up front. This version of "Greatest Story" is sensational--one of the densest, most solid performances I know of. "Peggy-O" is real purty, and "Cassidy" is hot. Both songs, as well as the "Friend of the Devil," are accentuated by the keyboards: Brent was very active this show. Jerry totally rips on "Friend of the Devil," which is very strummy. Brent continues his dominance with "Easy to Love You," which smoothly segues into an ordinary "El Paso." The "Tennessee Jed" that follows can best be described as simply "implacable"--the instrumental at the end cannot be reasoned with, only obeyed. Ya gotta love the "Dancin'" here: fourteen minutes of funk that borders on hypnotic in its intensity and leads into a hot, short "Deal." About an hour and a quarter: "Greatest Story," "Tennessee Jed," and most of all, the "Dancin'" are most memorable.

The "Scarlet" > "Fire" that opens the second set is a solid twenty-five minutes, although there are hotter performances of both songs this year. The "Passenger" is on fire for the whole song. "Terrapin Station" is unusually spacey for this period, and, after a brief pause, it flows into a nice long "Playing in the Band," which winds down after some mellow jamming into "Drums." Alas, the "Drums" on this tape is largely edited out, and the tape resumes with the last of "Drums" into a "Space" that totally telegraphs "Lost Sailor"--the Goodyear blimp would have been less obvious--but just as they are about to start the song, dive-bombing pterodactyls make an appearance. Really. Seriously. Well, it sounded that way--you never heard "Space" like this before or since. After the last of the dive-bombers descend, the gentle opening chords of "Lost Sailor" appear as advertised. It's a laid-back version that concludes with a long-drawn-out note as the "Saint" takes over. It's a slow, methodic kinda "Saint" that gathers energy at the end. The "Wharf Rat" > "Good Lovin'" is a more routine workout but nonetheless satisfying. "Don't Ease Me In" rocks out!

Awesome blog! Had you bookmarked a while back but lost site in the haze of favorites. Trying to get caught up.

A little trick to perhaps get people to leave comments is to slip a few hidden shows and links in the comments section. Getting the ungrateful to just click the comments section may make it easier for them to type a simple thank you. Though I am guilty here, there and everywhere for not always saying thanks.

Anyway, fantastic job and a big salute to you for these awesome soundboards!

LSDAmerica -- hey now! Good to hear from ya!

Thanks for your suggestion... I thought a little about it and I might incorporate somethin like that into posts in the future. I was just telling my posting partner, Sugarmag, that the lack of comments is no big whoop sometimes. Knowing how many downloads each show gets and knowing that so few people say even a single word of "Thanks", that can get to me from time to time... brings me down occasionally... but it's still good to be sharing these great tunes!

Well listen, I'm glad you've been diggin' the downloads and that you dropped me a few comments to say so. Much appreciated!

P.S. awesome soundboards are awesome but sometimes an AUD can be just as good! Robert Hunter immediately comes to mind and some Jerry shows, too.

Couldn't agree with you more about the killer Aud's. I remember back in the late 80's in high school, I was introduced to a guy, and in his basement he had an entire ping pong table lined with cassette shows. Kind soul allowed me to pick and choose stuff to listen to and record. A true old school trader I guess. Along came digital and the fun began again!

Sometimes those 'lesser' non boards capture the atmosphere just right. Took about 2 years but I think I've leeeched all the material from the archive.

Peace and thanks again to you and SugarMag for generously running a really great, unique blog and helping fill some of the gaps in the collection.

Hi LSD America, Thank you and it is my pleasure. I just noticed your blog, I don't have time right now but I'll stop by and check it out later. Looks pretty cool.

Hi Sugarmag,

Yah, this is a new one I put together back in October. Been busy lately with a move from Chicago to Greater Cincinnati and a new job so it had been put on hold for a while.

Plan on posting a lot of Dead, Zappa, and Pink Floyd, my holy trinity :) Will be mostly ROIO's, along with more obscure bands I like. I think I'll upload something tonight.

All feel free to visit me at http://psychedelicsacrifice.blogspot.com/.

Zooma, hope you don't mind me promoting my little blog.

Peace everyone!

Hi LSD America, yeah, I like Pink Floyd and Frank Zappa a lot, too. If you don't eat your meat, you can't have any pudding! Watch out where the huskies go and don't you eat that yellow snow! I linked ya'!

LSDAmerica -- Promoting your blog in comments here?!? What the hell?!?

Just kidding! :)

I'm glad you linked him, Sugarmag! I was going to myself but you got it done so that's très cool.

Oh, and LSDAmerica, (or anyone), if there's anything in particular you're lookin' for (Dead or Garcia or something else within the GD family) feel free to send me an email and I'll see what I can do. I'm always happy to help fill in some more of those gaps with something you might be wanting to fill your ears with!

Many thanks for the link add. You all rule! Added you as well but currently very little traffic.

I'd really like to turn it into a premier music blog. Upped a few things over the weekend.
