Semi-Failure

Pat Benatar - In The Heat Of The Night - 1979 debut album ... good old classic American rock and roll.
Holy crudola, could I have taken more days off from running?

8 freakin' days!? Not good.

No excuse for it. Just complete pathetic laziness that should have no place in this life o' mine. It is way too easy to eat and enjoy eating some more and then top that off with a heaping helping of dessert... and then not exercise because why go through the trouble?!

Yeah, that's just wrong.

Finally right after work, and not just work but a 12 hour shift from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., I headed straight to the Rec Center and hit the track. This morning I planned (hoped) to implement this idea and so when I walked out the door I brought with me what I needed. Changed clothes at work 'cause if I had gone back to my house first, there's NO way I would've had the will to get back in my truck and drive to the gym. I would have collapsed on my couch, spent time sayin' hey to my dog who's desperately wanting some petting and some biscuits whenever I get home from anywhere, and that woulda been that. But this way worked and finally I got this bit of exercise which my body has so badly needed for days now. Thank God!

The North Face trail running shoe -- good for use in the Appalachian Mountains ... but seriously, they are rather small compared to the Rocky Mountains ... Sierra Nevada are sweet, too. Would definitely use 'em in the Alps, that's for sure. One thing's for sure -- Jerry Garcia or Bob Weir or Phil Lesh probably never went running on January 1st. Why January 1st? Just seems like a day that makes the most sense. Maybe Christmas. Run Time: 15 minutes 15 seconds

My run was a bomb, not da bomb, a bomb. I failed. Sort of. Mostly. Kinda.

Roughly 3/4 of the way to my end cue, after the 3rd song of 4, I pulled up. I stopped. Not sure why. I'm fairly certain I could have accomplished my time ... but I didn't give it my all.

On my mp3 player I fast-forwarded to another non-run tune and walked for a few minutes. Eventually I back-tracked to my 4th run song and finished up ... so it was a semi-failure. I made my run time... just not straight through.

I think the only reason tonight didn't go so well is because I took so many days off. Running is not my thing, I hate it, I'm not completely in shape, it's more of a chore than a joy... but I do it because it's the right thing to do for my health. I may have had this semi-failure but hopefully there won't be another for a long time. Tomorrow I give it another go and we'll see what happens.

Whew. I do not know what possessed me to listen to this. Man, I mean, I've actually liked Pat Benatar since Day 1 of MTV. I think since then. Maybe even a little before then from hearing some songs on WNEW or WPLJ. A bunch of her videos were some of the earliest on MYV but truly, aside from Video #1 (The Buggles,) I can't remember what else was played in those very first days. Was "Heartbreaker" in there? Maybe. That single was the most popular tune from this debut and it launched her. This album that its on actually pre-dates MTV and it's not one I've heard until now. Stuff after this from her I've heard, but nothing here (except the single.) Some of this material is a little weird -- "Rated X" about a porn star, sort of, I think, and "My Clone Sleeps Alone" mentions VD. Haven't heard that acronym in a long, long time.

Out of those I've listened to occasionally through the years (this being only about the 2nd in the past dozen years, easy) I'd say this is not her best album but it's a decent debut and really showcases her voice.

Wow, WNEW & WPLJ -- not sure how long you've been living away from New Jersey, but I could tell you, now, those stations seriously suck.

My Dad used to say that PLJ stood for "Pretty Lousy Junk."

When I was a wee tot, and into the bullshit that that station played, I would protest vehemently, but nowadays I would tend to agree with him.

I haven't lived there in about a dozen years but I grew up there to Age 18 plus several summers after that. Since then I've lived in so many places so NJ is the biggest part of who I am... and once upon a time WPLJ was a decent station, the first I remember listening to on my very first boombox. My recollections are foggy but PLJ was somewhat what WNEW became in their heyday... before they went to hell in the mid to late 90's, I think. Playing everybody who was anybody in Rock and Roll at the time, PLJ had their spot in the NYC limelight... I'm guesstimating here, like early 80's, I think.

Pat Benatar. Now that's a blast from the past. In particular, her 1980 album, Crimes Of Passion.gipnulum?

Yeah, when I rented music from Napster I listened to Crimes Of Passion... just before I started this blog. That was definitely a blast (and a half) from the past... has at least two (of her) major hits on it, maybe 3 even. I don't think I'll press play on Benatar again anytime soon... but she's kinda cool!

P.S. gipnulum backatchya (whatever gipnulum means!)
