I Could Use Some Heroin Right About Now

Delirious? -- Touch (2002)
Work. 12 hours here. 12 hours there. 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday-Friday? Not quite. I've now got Friday off... but I work Saturday. Sometimes 9 p.m. to 9 a.m. -- the overnight shift. Sometimes time flies right by. Other times it drags on and on and on and on and on and on and on... today was 12 hours again... or was it really like 20?

Dealing with wife and child abuse is just so fun, especially at Christmastime, and especially when it tumbles through the door into the -25 degree night. Listen, when you get so wasted that you can barely walk but still you feel the need to throw your wife and kid into the wall... and into the TV... and down the stairs... please, at least keep it indoors. Thank you.

The North Face trail running shoe -- good for use in the Appalachian Mountains ... but seriously, they are rather small compared to the Rocky Mountains ... Sierra Nevada are sweet, too. Would definitely use 'em in the Alps, that's for sure. One thing's for sure -- Jerry Garcia or Bob Weir or Phil Lesh probably never went running on January 1st. Probably the same with Brent Mydland. Why January 1st? Just seems like a day that makes the most sense. Maybe Christmas.

Run Time: 15 minutes 29 seconds

Well, after that lovely last call at work, my spirits were so high, so full of hope for humanity I was... yay and fa la la la la and joy to the world and Kiss My Ass.

I was still determined to get a run in tonight. Shift done, changed clothes, headed to the Rec Center, the usual... and I got my run in.

After such a crappy night at work, twasn't so easy to concentrate on the music... and not concentrating on the music means I'm more able to pay attention to how lame running is. It truly bites. There's nothing whatsoever pleasant about the act... but it's the result that drives me and so I persisted towards my end cue.

Mentally -- not a nice time on the track. Physically -- no problem to speak of. Made my time, I did, that's what matters. Better to run for 15½ minutes then get no exercise at all!

Kickin' back now in the comfort of my house, stove's a burnin', Cassidy the wonder dog - he's glad I'm back and giving him cookies, but all I wanna do is be unconscious. I've never done heroin, wouldn't even know where to get any, not about to start anytime soon... but if I could just fast forward to tomorrow morning, that would be very desirable after this night.

If it wasn't like 25 below zero I'd make a call or two and see if I can scare someone up for a pitcher or three. Still a possibility.

Good stuff. This was my first time hearing Delirious? That wasn't a question. It was. Most Christian music I listen to is for the first time. Most all music I listen to is for the first time nowadays, it seems, but not listening to music Christian music, so much of it I have no idea about whereas when I play some country or jazz (or whatever) by someone I've never heard of before, usually I know what I'm gettin' into. Not with this. What I found out -- good stuff! Apparently Delirious? is a band that has sought success both within Christian music circles as well as in the mainstream market. Their lyrics have God right at the center yet they never invoke His name while singing all about His glory. Any Christian can read perfectly into what's here and appreciate it tremendously. While those who don't care for Christian lyrics, they'd find these to be just fine. The music is a great "alternative" modern sound that some compare to U2 and Coldplay and Radiohead. What this definitely isn't -- foofy Christian "adult alternative" that might be pleasing to your pastor's grandma. Nope, that's not what this is and that's why it's good, at least to me. For a more in depth review, there's a pretty good one at ChristianityToday.

I think any guy who physically abuses his spouse should have his Sex Organ sawed off with a dull serrated steak knife, and then be beaten with it.

If it wasn't 25 below zero, and he was a bit closer to home, and all up in my face, I'd be glad to beat the shit out of him myself.

I can certainly understand the extreme contempt for such a despicable person. A man who hits a woman... and his child, he's not a man, he's pathetic crap. Last night I was happy the cops were there 'cause my blood was boiling; if I wasn't there to help and if I had any thoughts that violence against such a person was okay, I'd a wanted to, oh, bash his head in a few times, leave him in the sub-freezing night to take care of himself.

To physically harm him in return isn't an answer. Scumbags deserve a chance to be rehabilitated... ideally so they can pass their newfound wisdom on to others and to prevent such crimes in the future. You send angry scum to jail and treat him like a piece of crap, so great are the odds that the very same man will walk out of that jail cell one day and commit the very same acts. Don't get me wrong, I don't wanna coddle the guy and treat him like his acts are no big deal -- in my eyes he's garbage right now... but again, I believe garbage should be helped to become respectable members of society once they seek forgiveness for their sins.

Laws need to be stricter and many need to be changed. Potheads don't belong in jail, they deserve house arrest, but not jail time unless they're dealers.

And no way on capital punishment. Killing isn't right. That makes the people ordering the killing no better than the person being put to death!! Besides, too many from Death Row have been set free because while we may have the best Justice system in the world, it's flawed beyond belief and for an innocent person to be killed, that ain't right.

But those who murder and probably those who rape, they oughta be locked up for good with no chance to ever do it again.

Those are few compared to the many many felons in jail who should be rehabilitated because the rate at which people get rearrested in this country is insane. Communist China does a better job at rehabilitating criminals than the U.S. where here it's a joke.

We oughta be giving prisoners a reason to want to live a crime-free life, a purpose to live and even to be positive examples and helpful to other criminals.

Lock 'em up and give 'em three squares a day while they watch Oprah and most of 'em will return to a life of crime.

Yeah, that's useful for society, I say with dripping sarcasm.
