Time Keeps On Slippinn' Slippinn' Slippinn', Into The Fuuturrre - Part II

Drifting ... through March ... onward to a new month.
The days, they go by so very quickly. Wasn't it just February? Wasn't it just January? It's only just turned from Winter to Spring... but in the blink of an eye it will be Summer already. And then Fall? Round and round we go. 366 days this calendar year... seems like 36. I need a vacation. I need to go somewhere. I've got France on my mind again, to just wander the countryside, from the Ocean to the Alps and everywhere except Paris in between. Bon jour. Je m'appelle, Chris. Très bien. Merci.

I also need to go back to Africa, a trip which would completely invigorate me... and that would be a journey which would actually mean something versus bumming around part of Europe to fuel my desire to just travel without any itinerary or agenda in mind. But day in and day out I'm getting no plans made for anything except which album to use for my next running playlist and which show to post next.

Truly I wouldn't mind a few days in Whitehorse... maybe in Nome... or in the warmer climates of the panhandle, Ketchikan maybe. I'm just so tired and I wanna get away -- no work, no blog, no uploads, no downloads. Just beer and sleep and food without one single care in the world. No work. Did I mention that? I love what I do, being an EMT is rewarding, it's something the community needs, and I'm not monotonously stuck in an office Monday-Friday 9 to 5 (something which would drive me NUTS!)... but there are the days that just beat a person down. It's no wonder this profession has a very high burn-out rate.

Or maybe I just need to feed my Dunkin' Donuts craving? The nearest Dunkin' to here, oh, not that far, only about 2,600 miles (about 4,200 km.) If I leave right now I think I can be back in about 8 days.

Or maybe I just woke up way too early this morning to go for a run. Perhaps all I need is a few granola bars and some OJ to give me a bit of a kick start. Coffee has the absolute inability to do that. My addiction to it means the caffeine has no effect.

I mentioned warmer weather... maybe I'm just darn sick and tired of the endless cold. Actually it's not endless; it'll begin to get warmer soon enough. But here we are with another morning below zero Fahrenheit. My guess for today's high: freezing and no more than that. I'd LOVE to be wearing shorts and a sweatshirt! And no socks outside. Instead it's the same bundle of clothes. What I wouldn't give for a nice crisp New Englandy Spring day... with that smell of Spring, that newness in the air. Shorts and no socks, yes, that is important to me... I'm a surfer in the summertime, well, I have been in the past, when my geographical positioning was right for it... mostly a long time ago when growing up on the Jersey shore... but that doesn't mean I'm not longing for warm summer days at this point in life... shorts and no socks outdoors, beach bum-ish... yeah, man, laid back, hippy-ish, warm weather lovin' me. Here, well, that'll come eventually... but it won't last long... and I guess part of me is just wanting it now. Not weeks from now. Now.

Oh well. Whatever.
I ran, I came back, I showered, I typed... now I'm off to work.

The North Face trail running shoe -- good for use in the Appalachian Mountains ... but seriously, they are rather small compared to the Rocky Mountains ... Sierra Nevada are sweet, too. Would definitely use 'em in the Alps, that's for sure. One thing's for sure -- Jerry Garcia or Bob Weir or Phil Lesh or Blaise Compaoré probably never went running in Colombia, Paraguay, Liberia, Ivory Coast, Côte d'Ivoire, Burkina Faso, Ouagadougou, Pyongyang, Probably the same with Brent Mydland. At least that's my gut feeling. I could be wrong. I mean, there were a lot of drugs at Grateful Dead shows and the good Lord above, He knows I did my share!

Run Time March:3 hours 20 minutes
February:3 hours11 minutes
January:2 hours56 minutes

Despite feeling really worn down at the time of typing this, an hour ago when I was at the gym and on the track I felt pretty good. Stoopid idiot me -- it's been 3½ days since my last run. The strange thing is I have no idea how that happened. It goes along with what I was saying above -- the days, they're just drifting on by. In any case, I was ready to run today, knew it had to get done, planned for this morning, and BAM, I got my butt there and hit the track bright & early. A fine run without any problem whatsoever. My increase was again only a very small amount but I think it could easily have been a lot more. Slow and steady, I'm in no rush. Yeah, I'm desiring a half hour ... and an hour ... and even 2 hours ... but that's quite a ways off. Maybe it'll never happen but one thing is for certain -- I will keep building as I am now and when I get there, well, that'll be when I get there. For now I'm just happy to have eclipsed my total running time for February. Next step: make sure I don't take the last 4 days of the month off and not run again until April. Would really love to bump up that March time by another 18/19 minutes ... which'll push me more next month.

Yup.

I've listened to this album a good half dozen times or so now and it's not doing anything for me. It was good to use for running and during my stretching before running... it would be fine to play like... when I'm busy working on the house or something, or when cleaning... but other than that... eh... it's one of those albums I'm completely indifferent about.
It's not bad music... there are some cool sounds but overall it just doesn't feel like there's anything that extraordinary about these tunes.

I actually indulged in Dunkin' Donuts this morning because we made up a snow day today (yes, it's a Saturday!). I needed to coax myself to school and Dunkin' coffee did the trick.

Cheers!

Making up a snow day on a SATURDAY?!?!?!

Oh no, that NEVER woulda worked for me, not when I was a student. I think half our senior class would've boycotted that, maybe more. Not even Dunkin Donuts, not even a kegger at lunch would've gotten many of us there on a Saturday! NO WAY, Jose!!!!

one says one number and the other another
but they were set at the same time. Hmmm...

i love you amy uzarski. always!
